How Police Threat Against The 2face-led Protest Proves Their Incompetence

The threat by the Lagos State Police Command, that it would stop the planned Feb. 6 protest championed by pop star, Innocent ‘2face’ Idibia has not gone down well with many well meaning Nigerians who regard the move as a ploy by government to stop the citizens from expressing themselves by crooked means.
2face had in the past week, rallied well-meaning Nigerians via his social media platforms to participate in the march against the poor governance that has culminated in extreme hardship for Nigerians.
But in a baffling move, the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the command will not let the protest hold because ‘intelligence report indicates that criminals might hijack the process‘, as the reason for the move.
He said, “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest. An as such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos. We know that Tuface does not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand.

The Police boss’ reason for wanting to stop the protest is, however, laughable as it is ludicrous for the reasons outlined below…
  1. 2face, along with all the Nigerians who want to do the peaceful rally have the constitutional right to do so and any attempt to stop them is an infringement on their rights.
  2. The ‘reason’ the Police Commissioner gave for his decision to stop the protest is an indictment on the Police itself as it implies that they are saying that they cannot protect Nigerians from ‘hoodlums‘ that want to ‘hijack‘ the protest
It is doubtful, however, that Nigerians would back out of the protests judging by the raft of support the movement keeps garnering on the social media space. In addition, the man at the vanguard of the rally, ‘2baba’ has completely ignored the threat, as he keeps encouraging all and sundry to support the movement of the people.
“This is not a point-scoring exercise. It is not about tribe or religion. It is for the unrepresented. Our leaders owe us their ears too and they must hear us. This march is about connecting the government with the citizens.
#IStandWithNigeria” 2face wrote.
